I remember ...

Old rusted bolts and pitons on the top of dryfalls were telling us that canyon had been discovered about 20 years before, but no one seemed to know it. Clearly that canyon had not been descended in the last decade. Unknown though explored yet.
This can happen when the explorers don't publish anything: the news may not spread and the canyon returns unknown. This happened to many explored canyons in Italy ...
