I remember ...

Autumn 2011 and winter 2012 was very very dry, so most canyons had no water flowing. I had located some canyons to be explored, but I was waiting for some flow-rate to go through those canyons at their best. I kept waiting and winter was going to pass, and rain was keeping far from Central Italy.

On february, unexpected, came the snow. A lot of snow, so much snow to cripple villages and towns, to cause damages to the electricity network, aqueducts, roads, ... 60 years had passed since a snowfall like this!
As soon as snow was mostly melted I thought it was the right moment to start exploring in central Italy. My first target was the nice short narrows of Fosso Pietranzano.
Once at the place, however, I noticed the big snowfall wasn't enough to fill the water deficit and end the drought. Pietranzano had very little flow-rate only in its first part while in the second part it had pools but no flow at all.

The following weeks confirmed what I had seen in Pietranzano: the water from melting snow ended quickly and streams turned dry again.
