Fosso del Canalone

In the lowest valley of Turano we find the same pudding rock than in Balzi di Grotti, a kind of rock particularly suited to the genesis of canyons. In the bottom of a valley amidst the forest stream Fosso del Canalone meets a compact layer of pudding and digs a narrow meander having some spots almost dark as a cave. Little cascades and deep pools embedded in narrows follow one another at fast pace. Then Fosso del Canalone joins to canyon of Rio Secco, having more cascades and pools and dark narrows.

I remember ...

I met Andrea right on the occasion of the exploration of Fosso del Canalone. Previously we had exchanged some ideas chatting on a mailing list about canyoning. It seemed a great guy, and so I proposed to do something together. The best situation to appreciate strengths and weaknesses of a partner in canyoning is undoubtedly the exploration of an unknown canyon, and so I proposed to him to descend an unexplored tributary of Rio Secco. I had explored the Rio Secco a couple of months before, with Renato, but he (Renato) seemed not interested to the tributary).

The exploration was a success, and Andrea turned out a really great guy, a reliable partner and then, with time, a friend. Since then we have explored about sixty canyons together (at the time of writing), and it seems we have not yet had enough ...
