Fosso dell'Acquaviva

The hills surrounding Fosso della Pasquarella are characterized by karst phenomena. There is certainly a vast network of tunnels underground: this is testified by the air that comes out strong from the Buche del Vento (Holes of the wind), it's witnessed by the Vorgozzo, the great chasm hidden in the middle of the dense woods that cover the hills, it's certified by the absence of water in the streams that descend steeply towards the main valley.
So don't be fooled by the name: the water runs through Fosso dell'Acquaviva only during a flood! In the Fosso you find dryfalls engraved in the typical Umbrian thin-layered limestone, beautiful and landsliding, offering you an interesting descent in a splendid Mediterranean environment with nice views and historical testimonies.

What you find in the detailed description

I remember ...

When I went to the Pasquarella hermitage for the first time, I noticed a narrow gorge beside the church, a dry gorge ending in the square where you leave the car. The gorge, however, was very short, with only one little waterfall at the beginning. Upstream it was a wide valley through the woods.
I went up the valley for a while, convincing myself that there was nothing interesting there.
If I had gone up it longer, I would have arrived at the foot of the dryfalls of Fosso dell'Acquaviva.
