Located on the western side of Monti Sabini range, the Palombara valley presents unexpected narrows between low walls, with surprising shapes and sizes as you consider that the valley has a very small supply basin and the stream is very little.

I remember ...
Canyons are not created by the erosive action of water, but by orogeny. When mountains raise fractures are generated. They become the passageways of water, which over time shapes them, deepens them, sometimes fills them with debris.
In the gorge of Valle Palombara the tectonic origin is more evident than elsewhere: a tight gorge like this could not have been dug by such a little stream!
