I remember ...

Fosso dei Ronci is among the first canyon discovered in Lazio. It is told it was discovered by chance: Piero Festa (a veteran among cavers in Roma) run into it while hiking in Lucretili Mounts.
At that time almost no people thought that there were canyons hidden in the sweet hills of Lazio. Canyons were believed to lie between tall mountains with majestic rocky walls visible from afar.

A few days after, Piero returned to Fosso dei Ronci with two young members of his caving association, and so canyon of Ronci was explored. The news of a canyon so near to Roma spread fast, and in a couple of years every keen on caving and climbing (there was no authentic canyoneer at that time in Roma) went through the nice narrows of Ronci.

As years passed, many other canyons were found in Lazio and in central Italy: beautiful, long, with plenty of water, with high cascades, majestic landscapes ... The new-born authentic canyoneers grew with other canyons in mind. Little by little people forgot the canyon of Ronci.

But it is still there, beautiful as ever.
