canyon exploring with Michele Angileri

Fosso di Roccaranieri

The hills of Salto valley, now abandoned by the agro-pastoral activities, are rapidly rturning wild. The tenacious, thorny, lush local vegetation is covering the hills also taking possession of the spaces left empty by the (sometimes insane) woodcuts. This hostile environment preserves the unexpected and amazing gorges and waterfalls of Fosso di Roccaranieri.

I remember ...

Sometimes I wonder who makes me do it. To squeeze my brain for planning the place and the gear, to wake up early, to drive for hours, to slip through homegrown jungles and quicksands. I am almost 50, and as weekend comes I'm always tired becaus of working ... Why do I keep doing the boy playing the little explorer in the woods of the country? and it's dangerous, too, for anyone (yes ANYONE as you can see in the videoclip).

And then, inevitably, as I walk through the n-th anonymous and unknown valley in the hills of Lazio, I find myself in a place like this ... and I remember why I do it.

Photographs in this website show ultralight ropes (6 mm ropes made of high tenacity fibers). Read multimedia book Ultralight ropes canyoning technique to learn how to use them.
