canyon exploring with Michele Angileri

Fosso di Portella

Fosso di Portella reaches the confluence with river Velino with a great splendid waterfall, 100 meters high. It is preceded and followed by some low waterfalls. Those which follow the great waterfall are avoidable with a few meters of easy and safe climbing, so it is possible to admire it from the bottom without being forced to descend it.
In winter and spring water falling down this big jump (the highest in Lazio) is amazing, and the descent gives unforgettable emotions and sensations.

I remember ...

We were astonished seeing the great waterfall under our feet. We didn't expect it, so we had no long rope. We decided to give up, to return with longer ropes.
The second time our ropes were long enough, oh yes :-)

Photographs in this website show ultralight ropes (6 mm ropes made of high tenacity fibers). Read multimedia book Ultralight ropes canyoning technique to learn how to use them.
