canyon exploring with Michele Angileri

Fiumara della Corte

The most awesome canyons, those with high compact walls, the most famous ones, develop in length far more than in height difference. So these canyons are easy for canyoneers, may not even require any technical skills, so you may be tempted to underestimate them, not to take into due consideration ... But it would be wrong, because the grandest sceneries hide inside these canyons.
In Lucania, at the border between Basilicata and Campania, there are a few streams that flow in majestic easy canyons. Fiumara della Corte is one of them, maybe the most interesting. The canyon is usually dry, due to the karst nature of the area.

What you find in the detailed description

I remember ...

The absence of water, the color and the compactness of the limestone, the majesty of narrows, the length, the presence of few and small waterfalls, the beauty of mediterranean environment ... I do not like to make comparisons (each canyon has its own unique character) but I can not help but notice how much this place reminds me of Flumineddu-Gorropu!
