I remember ...

Legend has it that Saint Bernardino from Siena, while walking from Stroncone to Greccio Sanctuary along the "Via di Francesco" stopped for a few minutes to kneel in prayer, and then continued on his way, miraculously leaving the imprint of his knee in the hard limestone rock...
The small hollow in the rock attributed to Saint Bernardino's knee is still visible today, clearly indicated by tourist signs. And along the path you can see more rock shapes interpreted by the faithful as signs of Saint Bernardino's passage: the chair, the bed, the foot, the hand, the barrel...

And the beauty of Umbria also lies in this, in the juxtaposition of a rich and surprising nature with an equally rich and surprising history.
