The creek near the village of Sassinoro offers an aquatic canyoning route with a marked hiking character, where long open parts are done by walking on the slippery rocks. Some points, however, are beautiful.

I remember ...

At the halfway point of the descent water is taken away by a recent catching (dating back no more than 4-5 years), probably for hydroelectric purposes. Common opinion considers hydroelectric energy "clean" and sustainable, but there is no clean energy in fact. Taking energy from the environment inevitably involves alterations. The creek downstream the dam becomes a dry bed, which only by chance resumes life further downstream thanks to the numerous springs in the area. Barring a stream means altering the flow of debris, fauna, flora, building masonry, roads, aqueducts, tunnels ... We need energy to live, but we should not forget that the environment pays a price for all this, and we, as part of the environment, suffer the consequences of our energy policies and not just the benefits.
