Canale dell'Iserno

Landscape in northern Sardinia is designed by the famous sardinian granite rock. Wind and rain are able to carve beautiful sculptures like the famous "Bear", near Palau. Granite area of northern Sardinia has two names: its southern part is called Monteacuto, while northern part is known as Gallura.

In Monteacuto we find uninhabited plateaus at 600-800 m asl, covered by cork-oaks, wide as the eye can see. The flanks of plateaus are covered by mediterranean bush. Streams that go down from plateaus sometimes dig canyons interesting to canyoneers.
One of them is called Canale dell'Iserno. In wet season it offers a long tiring trail with plenty of pools and some nice cascades to be rappelled. It offers also majestic sceneries of granite rocks and mediterranean forest.

I remember ...

In Sardinia the right season for canyoning is usually november to april. It is Sardinia's wet season: all streams have water flowing down the cascades. In the other part of year streams become dry.
But in this right season we are busy with our jobs: it's not easy for us to find a few days to go canyoning in Sardinia.

That's why we went exploring Canale dell'Iserno in june! We were aware that we probably would not find waterflow ... and it was so. But in that hot summer day we could do something that would be impossible in the right season: to swim through pools wearing no wetsuit, dressed in shirt and pants!
That's what might be called "a full immersion in Nature"!
