Torrente Celadi

The wonderful, ancient Rossano rises on a large hill bordered on all sides by sandstone cliffs (part of which is red), overlooking the narrow coastal plain and the Sibari bay, with the majestic Sila woods behind it.
To the east, the cliffs fall into the deep valley of Celadi stream, known to naturalists for the presence of the extremely rare carnivorous (insectivorous) plant Pinguicula crystallina hirtiflora. The steep sides of the lower Celadi valley are home to typical Calabrian cultivated lands, now partly abandoned.
Further upstream, the slopes become steeper and more rocky, suitable only for forests, and the Celadi flows through gorges in the granite.

I remember ...

In 2012 I went to descend the Celadi. The bed was often blocked by collapsed trees which made descent slow and tiring. In 100m of altitude loss there were no significant gorges or waterfalls: I thought it was not worth continuing, so I interrupted the descent and return to the car.

A few years later Saverio Talerico had a different impression of Celadi (also because the collapsed trees were no longer there) and walked through it entirely.
Compared to other canyoning routes in the area the Celadi is less significant, but still interesting and enjoyable.
